| Swimming Stadium Duisburg-Wedau Task In the autumn of 2002, a hurricane caused the collapse of the old air-inflated structure of the Duisburg-Wedau swimming stadium. This collapsed air-inflated structure, built in the 80s, was constructed on a solid structure that was built in the 70s as an open-air pool complex. The New Indoor Complex The new swimming stadium is based on the existing concrete body of the old swimming stadium. Only the existing 50-m sports pool is to be covered and taken back into use. The diving pool has already been taken out of use and is to remain so. Due to the fact that the body of the pool and the technical areas in the cellar already exist, the construction project is not a pure new build, but also a conversion. The swimming stadium is primarily to serve schools and clubs for swimming sports. In addition to this, it is the home of the Duisburg 1st league water polo team. |
