| The ship at sea The health and recuperation leisure complex Sylter Welle has dedicated itself entirely to landscape-related integration. With it, a thoroughly styled theme complex has been the successful result. The fundamental idea is based upon the direct contact with sea: The illusion of beach, sea and a docked ships hull is still retained with uniforms of the complex staff being styled on a captains uniform. Bathing on the inner deck The location in a dune landscape on the North Sea determines the central idea of giving the main building the suggested form of a ship. The demolition of an old wave pool complex from the 1960s and the part of the adjacent aquarium above ground preceded the planning. The ships stern of the leisure complex is aligned towards the main entrance and its bow points to the beach promenade. Skylights in the form of chimneys along the axis and the visible ventilation systems underline the symbolism of the docked ship. Even inside the leisure complex itself, the visitor is not robbed of the illusion: Wide window fronts on the inner deck reveal the view of the North Sea and make its immediate proximity tangible. |
